Definition

The pressure plate of the agricultural clutch is a disc-shaped component that is mounted on the flywheel and operates through the clutch to connect and disconnect the power transmission between the engine and the transmission.

Structure

Platen cover: The platen usually consists of a flat disc-shaped cover, usually made of a metallic material such as steel. It is in intimate contact with the flywheel and pressure is applied by a pressure device to ensure a good frictional contact.

Friction plate: The friction surface of the pressure plate is usually covered with a friction material, such as a friction plate. Friction linings typically consist of a friction material (usually friction lining layers) and a support material (such as a metal plate). The friction surface of the friction plate is in contact with the friction surface of the flywheel to realize power transmission.

Spring and piston: On the back of the pressure plate, there is usually a pressure device consisting of a set of springs and pistons. The function of the spring and the piston is to apply enough pressure to make the pressure plate in close contact with the flywheel and ensure proper friction between the friction plate and the friction surface of the flywheel.

Release bearing (if applicable): Some agricultural clutch pressure plates may have a release bearing on them. The release bearing is used to separate the pressure plate and flywheel during clutch operation to disconnect power transmission.
